National Order for South African writer Muthal Naidoo

Pretoria: Veteran actress, playwright and writer Muthal Naidoo was the sole Indian-origin South African to receive a National Order from President Jacob Zuma here on Friday evening. Zuma honoured men and women, who have made great contributions to South Africa`s democracy, by bestowing National Orders on them since 2010 at a ceremony at the Presidential Guesthouse on the annual Freedom Day public holiday. National Orders are awarded to deserving citizens and eminent foreign nationals who have contributed meaningfully towards making the country a free, democratic and successful nation, united in its diversity. Naidoo, 76, received the Order of Ikhamanga, joining several other local and international recipients of the orders made in several categories. Gutta Jwala Makes history, qualifies for two Olympic events

NEW DELHI: Jwala Gutta will become the first Indian to qualify for two events - mixed and women's doubles - in the Olympics when the world rankings are out next week and the doubles specialist said she was delighted and hoped to bring laurels to the country at the London Games . In the 1992 Barcelona Games, Vimal Kumar and Dipankar Bhattacharjee had played in the singles and men's doubles category though they had qualified only in singles and hence were given an entry in doubles event as well. Beyond poultry, Suguna eyes ready-to-eat foods

Coimbatore-based Rs 4,200 crore Suguna Poultry ( B Soundararajan, chairman, Suguna Foods ) wants to grow beyond poultry. The company has renamed itself as ‘Suguna Foods’ in line with its ongoing efforts to provide a gamut of products in the foods category. The company is expanding the portfolio of offerings to other livestock products, ready-to-eat vegetarian foods and milk and milk products, while increasing its retail presence. At present, processed and ready-to-eat chicken contributes to 95 per cent of Suguna’s revenue, with the rest coming from eggs, poultry feed, poultry vaccine and soy oil. As it moves into a larger space, Suguna expects its poultry contribution to come down to 70 per cent in the next five years. The new products coming out from Suguna Foods will include processed meat of turkey, fish, lamb, and emu under the brand ‘Suguna Exotic’. The Great Kamma Nayaks of Kandy

  VikramRajasinha, Last King of Ceylon The Nayaks of Kandy (Nayakar Dynasty) were the rulers of Sri Lanka with Kandy as their capital from 1739 to 1815. They were also the last dynasty to rule Sri Lanka. They were from the royal family of the Madurai Nayak dynasty, who were of Telugu origin and were members of the Kammavar Naidu caste . There were four kings of this lineage and the last king was exiled by the British to Vellore Fort in India. They assumed the Kandy throne through marriage alliances with the much prevailing Marumakkathayam law. These kings were Hindus later converted to Buddhism and were responsible for renaissance of Buddhist culture in the Island. Origins The Mahanuwara dynasty that preceded the Kandy Nayaks always married brides from royal family of Madurai Nayaks and Tanjore Nayaks. Orthopaedic surgeon Dr.Kodali Siva Rama Krishna Prasad does India proud

It's raining awards for Dr.Kodali Siva Rama Krishna Prasad , a staff grade orthopaedic surgeon working for Prince Charles Hospital at Merthyr Tydfil in United Kingdom since 1994. A native of Thurumella village near Tenali in Guntur district, the UK-settled orthopaedic flew down to India in January this year to receive the globally reputed Glory of India Award.  Not yet 15, Karnam Spoorthy is set to stamp her class on the table tennis firmament. For one so young, just having written her matriculation exams, the Vijayawada native is quick to size up an opponent and her game. The teenager's fore and backhand counter top spin driven game has rivals on the back-foot soon enough.
